What we’re chatting about this week…
Budget-friendly ideas to fight the cost of living!
Stewart sent us a voice message asking for our best tips on reducing costs - cause that cost-of-living crisis is real, and affecting us all! So this week Bryce and Alec put their best ideas forward.
Basically, there are 2 main ways to tackle the cost of living - reducing expenses, or increasing your income. Bryce outlines the big line items of your household budget - housing, food, recreation (having fun), insurance and health - and then presents a whole bunch of thoughts on ways to cut costs.
Listen to the full episode to get an idea - but we’ll be swapping across to Kogan Prepaid Mobile for sure (not sponsored!) Makes us feel terrible about our current mobile costs. Got a question? Ask us at equitymates.com.
From the vault: How to keep track of your portfolio
We’re looking back at some of your favourite episodes of You’re In Good Company. We always talk about having a ‘set and forget’ approach to investing, but even if you’re building a more passive portfolio, part of the fun of becoming an investor is staying curious and interested in the world around you.
Maddy and Sophie talk about the key metrics, news , podcasts and thoughts they consider once they’ve hit buy and have that stock ticker sitting in their brokerage account.
What investing question do you want answered? We want to help you in your investing journey! Here's two topics, what should we prepare answers for? Remember you can always ask us whatever is on your mind! |
What are the best resources for investing?
“Hey Equity Mates - Can you list some useful tools to research or find out more information about stocks I want to buy?
Cheers! Love your work. Sally”
No problem Sally! Of course, we pulled together a few of our favourite things to read, listen and watch…
Online investing courses. If you’ve already listened to our Get Started 12 Part series, but you’re not completely ready to dive in… then check out our completely free course we created with Rask. You’ll get lifetime access too - so you can truly go at your own pace.
Crowd-sourced content. There’s a bunch of forums and online communities (here’s looking at you Equity Mates Investing Discussion Group and Equity Mates Forum), but Alec is always finding gems and information on Twitter and Reddit. Investopedia put together a great list of the top reddit investing communities here.
Investor relations pages. Every single publicly listed company needs to have an investor relations page. They just do, it’s the rules. If you’re thinking about investing in a particular stock, it’s a good idea to check this out - just remember it will be written with a little bit of ‘spin’… they want you to invest, after all!
News and Stock Charts. This might be boring, but it’s worth saying because there’s always someone who’s never seen Google Finance or Yahoo Finance before. These are filled with information (perhaps too much information?) But it’s a great place to get a birds-eye-view of the company you’re looking at.
Equity Mates. Did you really think we’d put together a list like this and not plug our own network? Sorry, that’s just not going to happen! Join the Equity Mates Forum, the Equity Mates Facebook Discussion Group and 100s of podcasts. Simply visit equitymates.com and search for the topic you want to know more about - and if we haven’t answered it yet - tell us at contact@equitymates.com
